The Monarch Butterfly Chrysalis.
Once fully accomplished the larval stage, the caterpillar grown big enough is on its way to becoming a butterfly. After firmly attached on a branch, the caterpillar will twitch until it will finally shed its exoskeleton revealing the chrysalis beneath. Although the chrysalis appears to be inert, the caterpillar changes dramatically its anatomy, making use of all the energy stored while eating large quantities of food. During this period of metamorphosis, the chrysalis of some butterfly species can move the abdominal segments in order to produce sounds and scare away the predators.
In the life of a butterfly, the pupal stage precedes the adulthood.
